Since 1921 the New York State Land Title
Association, Inc. (NYSLTA) has sought the highest standards for
our profession. We recognize the increasing importance of, and
our increasing reliance upon, the services of independent abstracters
(searchers), title examiners and closers as vital components
of the abstracting and title insurance industry.
What is NYSLTA?
The New York State Land Title Association,
Inc. (NYSLTA) is a statewide association that advances the interests
of all those involved in abstracting, examining or insuring title
to real estate. Our membership includes title insurance companies
licensed in New York State, abstract companies, title insurance
agents, law firms, individual attorneys, surveyors and others
actively involved in the real estate industry. NYSLTA is C.L.E.
accredited, a member of ALTA and other related associations.
What are the benefits of joining NYSLTA?
NYSLTA provides training, educational programs
and seminars for the benefit of its members and our industry. The
association monitors activities of the County Clerks, legislative
proposals, judicial decisions, new legislation and regulations
on state and national levels. Standing committees are in place
to analyze and report on issues impacting our profession. When
confronted with issues such as recording delays, controlled business
schemes or violations of New York Laws, the NYSLTA proactively
responds to legislation, measures or practices detrimental to the
land title industry.
Members of NYSLTA are kept informed on crucial
issues impacting the industry. Our association newsletter, The
Bulletin, is issued quarterly. The Bulletin features member news,
convention and seminar information, current court decisions, legislative
and departmental activities and summaries of recorded deed and
mortgage statistics. Special or emergency updates are faxed, mailed
or e-mailed to NYSLTA members, as necessary, for immediate information,
review or response. NYSLTA publishes an annual directory listing
the names, addresses and contact information for all members. Updates,
changes and additions to the directory are printed quarterly in
The Bulletin. The NYSLTA also posts member information, updated
quarterly, on its website www.NYSLTA.org.
A highlight of NYSLTA membership is the Annual
Convention. Members from across the state look forward to the convention
for networking, educational seminars and highly regarded speakers
from across America. At the convention, the association elects
its officers and conducts other official business. Members also
enjoy relaxing with their peers, golfing, shopping and enjoying
the sites and amenities of the convention location.

Who can join NYSLTA?
Three levels of membership are available. Abstracters,
abstract companies and title insurance agents may join the association
as "Regular" (voting) members. Regular Members are
entitled to serve as officers in the association, serve on the
Executive Committee and have the right to vote on association
matters.
The second level of membership is "Associate" (non-voting)
member. Employees and officers of NYSLTA members, attorneys-at-law,
public recording officers, licensed surveyors, officers of mortgage
lending institutions and other individuals interested in the
title profession may join as Associate Members.
The third level of membership is reserved for
independent (individual) abstracters, title examiners and closers
as "Associate" (non-voting) members. Such individuals
may join the NYSLTA and receive all the information and updates
recited above at a reduced dues rate. Independent abstracters,
title examiners and closers may also join as Associate Members
(second level above).
All Members must subscribe to and be governed
by the Code of Ethics of the New York State Land Title Association
and the Constitution and By-Laws of the Association. All classes
of members are invited to serve on committees or attend association
meetings and functions.
What does it cost to join NYSLTA?
Membership dues are based upon class of membership
(Regular or Associate). Associate Members pay a flat dues rate
of $275.00 per year. Independent abstracters, title examiners
and closers may join at a reduced dues rate of $110.00 per year.
Regular Members pay dues based upon their total number of employees.
An Application for Membership as an independent abstracter, title
examiner or closer is attached.
