The New York State Land Title Association, Inc. (“NYSLTA”), formed in 1921, is a statewide Association devoted to advancing the interests of all those involved in abstracting, examining or insuring title to real estate. Our membership includes title insurance companies, abstract companies, title insurance agents, law firms, individual attorneys, surveyors and others actively involved in real estate matters. We are your “trade association”.

These are difficult times for our industry. A perfect storm of decreased activity, decreased lender liquidity and increased regulatory scrutiny has engulfed us. We need to be proactive and we need your help and support. Our lobbyists in Albany work to track bills that impact the title industry. The Association pays for the preparation and filing of amicus briefs either in support of or in opposition to judicial decisions on appeal that impact our industry. The Association is working on drafting a favorable agent licensing bill and working with the New York State Department of Insurance to help them better understand this industry they regulate. On its own and with the American Land Title Association, the Association continuously works to protect the industry you have chosen as your livelihood. The Association protects you from negative publicity and regulatory proposals that could hinder or destroy your ability to earn a living as a title insurance agent.

Membership Levels

Regular Membership

Individuals, companies or corporations engaged directly in the business of abstracting titles to real property in New York State.
Application for Regular Membership, Zone 1 (PDF)
Application for Regular Membership, Zone 2 (PDF)

Associate Membership

Employees, attorneys-at-law, public recording officers, licensed surveyors, officers of mortgage lending institutions and other individuals interested in, or using the services of NYSLTA membership. Associate membership is not available to individuals, companies, or corporations engaged in abstract business or furnishing abstract service to a title company. They may apply for regular membership.

Independent Membership

Individual abstracters, title examiners and closers (non-voting members). Such individuals may join the NYSLTA and receive all the information and updates at a reduced dues rate. Independent abstracters, title examiners and closers may also join as Associate Members.
